Fresh Lotus Seeds

The lotus pod has this rather fibrous and rubbery texture to it. Tear it open to get to the seeds.

For the lotus seeds that we are familiar with, just tear through the green layer and you will get the fresh lotus seed that has a mild and pleasant sweetness to it. Just remember to remove the bitter tasting heart from the centre.

  1. We eat these in Louisiana (they’re called Grandavolies there). I’ve been gone 5 years and would do anything to get some here in Seattle 😦
